A 10-year-old child was arrested on Tuesday after she allegedly shot a woman who was arguing with her mother.

The Florida Department of Children and Families took custody of the youngster, according to the Orlando Police Department. The mother, Lakrisha Isaac, is also in custody of the authorities.

Monique H. Worrell, State Attorney for Orange and Osceola Counties, said, in a statement following the shooting, that her office has begun investigating the matter, per CNN. They added that they will "consider all of the facts, including the age of the child, and all of the surrounding circumstances, when making a charging decision."

The statement further read, "We want to be clear in stating that no charging decision has been made by our office," describing the incident as "one of the most tragic cases I have seen in my 22-year career."

According to an arrest affidavit for Isaac, the victim's boyfriend told police that he and Lashun Denise Rodgers (the victim), 41, were grilling at their apartment complex late on May 30 when Issac accosted her over a previous quarrel, reports NBC News. According to the document, Isaac approached Rodgers, began arguing, and delivered the first punch. According to his statement, the victim retaliated with a strike of her own.

As per the police report, which quoted witnesses, the 10-year-old was with her mother at the time of the fight. The statement goes on to say that the man grabbed his girlfriend and began to walk away when she turned back to "re-engage" Isaac, at which point the girl fired one or two rounds, hitting Rodgers.

The girl who was still carrying the pistol, according to Rodgers' boyfriend, stated, "She shouldn’t have hit my momma." Police spokesperson Heidi Rodriguez said that Rodgers was transferred to Orlando Regional Medical Center and ultimately died. The mother of the girl was arrested, and the youngster was put in the care of Florida Department of Children and Families.

According to the Orlando Police Department, the girl is charged with second-degree murder. Authorities accused the girl's mother with homicide by culpable negligence, child neglect, careless firearm storage, and aggravated assault with a handgun.

As juvenile records in Florida are usually confidential, it's unclear if the girl has a counsel. According to online records, the mother was assigned a counsel from the public defender's office, but no additional information was provided.
