In a shocking turn of events, a 5-year-old child died after being accidentally shot by her 3-year-old relation on Thanksgiving. According to WSB-TV, Khalis Eberhart was fatally shot in the chest during a family get-together on Thursday at a South Fulton apartment in Georgia. The young girl was immediately rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she tragically succumbed to her wounds. The circumstances surrounding the heartbreaking shooting are currently being investigated by police, while the grieving family claims that it was accidental.
Cops said they were called to The Garden of Camp Creek Apartments on Washington Road, Thursday night with reports of a shooting that happened around 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Neighbors in the complex revealed that Khalis' father ran to the paramedics with her baby girl in his arms. South Fulton police Lt. Jubal Rogers told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that little Khalis was shot and killed by her 3-year-old relative with an unsecured gun and her family claimed the same. The family is now left shocked and traumatized by her untimely and accidental death. "Khalis was a very smart girl, she was very outgoing," shared her grandmother Tracy Towns.
A 3-year-old child killed a 5-year-old girl in an accidental shooting on Thanksgiving. What makes the news so sad is that the mom died earlier this year and the little girl is survived by a twin. So sad. We have got to do something about guns in America. https://t.co/V0JHYBJTIx— T.C. Galltin (@TCGalltin) November 30, 2021
"Khalis, she kept a smile on her face, happy little child," she added. With Khalis gone, her twin and a 6-year-old elder brother are all alone. "Her and her twin had a great bond. When you saw one, you saw the other one," shared the victim's grandmother Tracy Towns according to WXIA. "They were always holding hands, hugging. They were always together. They talked to one another. They had a language that nobody else could understand." Towns added, "I know it’s going to be difficult for them because twins do share a bond that people don’t understand."
Khalis' death comes right after her mother's who passed away earlier this year. The family had just been reeling from her death when they tragically lost another member. To honor the little girl's memory, a candlelight vigil was held by them, reports PEOPLE. A GoFundMe page was also set up by the grandmother to raise money for Khalis' funeral. It has raised $2,250 of its goal amount of $8000 as of Monday.
Two stories about how a Georgia 5-year-old was fatally shot on Thanksgiving Day: her family says she hit a loaded gun sitting on a chair, causing it to go off. Police say another child in the home shot her in the chest. No charges have been filed. #gapol https://t.co/Z9l2JDm6CU— Shannon Watts (@shannonrwatts) November 27, 2021
"Hi my name is Tracy, I am the grandmother of Khalis," reads the page. "There are people asking me to set up a Gofundme. So I am asking you if it's in your hearts to please give a donation to my son Nate for the burial of his baby girl Khalis who lost her life Thanksgiving day due to an accidental shooting.
