Adopted woman reunites with biological father, then asks both her dads to walk her down the aisle

The biological father was 19 when his daughter was born and wondered if he'll ever reunite with her. "Twenty-five years go by and you kind of... not lose faith..." he said.

As Kara Miller walked down the aisle, she had two fathers take her hand and share the big moment with her before she exchanged wedding vows. She had both her biological father as well as her adoptive father watching her begin a new chapter in her life, and it couldn't have been more "perfect."

A few months before her wedding day, Kara did not even know who her biological father was. When she was only two days old, she was adopted by Doug and Dana Ashby and raised in Utah. Although Kara was raised in a happy home, she was always curious to find out who her biological parents are. Her adoptive parents were also well aware of her desire to find them.

Years later in 2019, Dana found out about MyHeritage's DNA Quest, which helps people connect with their relatives through DNA tests. Dana then told Kara about it because she knew how important it was for her to find her biological parents.

"It was just exciting," 26-year-old Kara told PEOPLE.

Kara found a cousin through the DNA test, and eventually, in 2021, she matched with an aunt, who introduced her to her biological father, Mark Wadley.

Her father, who was 19 years old when Kara was born, was immensely surprised to finally hear from his daughter for the first time. It was a normal Friday when Mark's mother and sister called to tell him about Kara and that their DNA matched with hers.

"At the beginning I said, 'Okay, I'll do a DNA test and confirm it, but my sister and my mother told me we don't need another test, it's 100% her," Mark recalled. "I told my sister — if that's the case, give her my details. I want to speak with her."

Over the past several years, Mark had also been thinking about his biological daughter just like she had been thinking about him. He wondered if he would ever get to meet her and said, "I never knew that the day would ever come. I never thought it would. I've always wondered where she was, how she was, and all that, but I never knew if it would ever happen or not."

"Twenty-five years go by and you kind of... not lose faith, but you think it's going to get harder and harder for it to happen," Mark added.

Finally, Mark and Kara began talking and decided to meet.

"I was very nervous but also very excited. I told her that we must meet and we scheduled a meeting for 2 weeks after. After a few days I felt that I just couldn't wait and asked to meet sooner," Mark said. "We live 2 hours drive from each other, so we met in a coffee house."

The father and daughter reunited, and soon, Kara was able to meet her biological mother through Mark as well.

On September 18, Kara tied the knot with her partner and had both her biological father as well as her adoptive father walk her down the aisle. Mark walked her down for the first half, and Doug took over for the second half.

"It was amazing," Kara said. "This day has been definitely more perfect than I could've ever asked for. Everything's just been so wonderful."

Grateful for all the pleasant surprises this year has given her, Kara added, "This year has been the best year for my of my whole life. It's been so wonderful to be able to share that with all of my family."
