Bruce Willis' wife Emma opens up about her grief: "My grief can be paralyzing"

"As my step-daughter @scoutlaruewillis told me, grief is the deepest and purest form of love. I hope you find some comfort in that too ?," read her post.

Emma Heming Willis opens up about her grief and how she's learning to deal with it. Months after her husband Bruce Willis' aphasia diagnosis, the 44-year-old model shared a video montage on Instagram last week. "This was the summer of self-discovery — finding new hobbies, going out of my comfort zone and staying active," read the caption to the post, which showed clips of her using a fitness mirror, playing tennis, gardening, painting, and finishing work on a wooden fence and table.

The video was set to Aretha Franklin's 1968 recording of I Say A Little Prayer. "My grief can be paralyzing but I'm learning how to live along side it. As my step-daughter @scoutlaruewillis told me, grief is the deepest and purest form of love. I hope you find some comfort in that too 💞," it continued. She ended the post with hashtags about National Grief Awareness Day.

Bruce Willis, 67, stepped away from acting in light of his deteriorating health and Emma described tha move as "a really challenging time." His sudden decision to retire prompted allegations against Midnight in the Switchgrass director Randall Emmett as people claimed that the actor was forced to work despite his health condition.

However, Willis' lawyer Martin Singer defended the actor's long time collaborator, Emmett, and shared that Willis continued working "because he wanted to work and was able to do so." Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Singer said, "My client continued working after his medical diagnosis because he wanted to work and was able to do so, just like many others diagnosed with aphasia."

"Because Mr. Willis appeared in those films, they could get financed. That resulted in literally thousands of people having jobs, many during the COVID-19 Pandemic," added Singer. Although Willis has retired from acting, he has kept himself busy with other things. Emma shared a video of her husband playing the harmonica while spending time with his daughter Rumer Willis' boyfriend Derek Richard Thomas on August 16.

"Their talent is speaking for itself. I'll just leave this here 🎶," Emma wrote of the moment, adding the hashtag #jamsession," read the post of the video in which the Die Hard actor jams as thomas sings and strums his guitar.
