Eddie Murphy didn't give up on love despite complicated relationship history, found the one at 51

The comedian’s personal life has been one hell of a roller coaster of emotions ever since welcoming his first child with former girlfriend Paulette McNeely in 1989.

Eddie Murphy has enjoyed a fruitful career over the years but the same cannot be said for his love life. The comedian’s personal life has been one hell of a roller coaster of emotions ever since welcoming his first child with former girlfriend Paulette McNeely in 1989 and recently being dragged to court by ex-Mel B who requested additional child support for their 13-year-old daughter, Angel. Despite the headlining unsuccessful affairs, the Coming to America star did not close himself off and ultimately found the one at the age of 51 when he began dating Paige Butcher.

It was during the shooting of 2006’s Big Momma’s House 2 that the two first met. Although the initial encounter did not immediately blossom into something beautiful, it was played a significant role in changing their future forever. They began dating in 2012 and according to Us Weekly, it was Murphy who "pursued her" not only for her beauty but also for her humble personality. The Australian native began her career in modeling after being influenced by her mother who was a fashion designer. Her career suddenly took off and she even landed her first movie cameo in 2003’s Something’s Gotta Give which was followed by Big Momma’s House 2

But Butcher said goodbye to her acting career after these two movies explaining that acting was "not really" something she wanted to do. "I moved to L.A. mainly for the lifestyle...Living in New York after 14 years, I’m such an outdoors kind of person," she added according to Vanity Fair. For her, fame was not something she was interested in but making her relationship with Murphy work was. Thus in 2013, she deleted all her social media accounts as she began dating the 60-year-old to keep their private life on the down-low. "I’m in a relationship with a celebrity, so I felt like there’s already enough of me out there. I felt like I was giving out too much information," explained the 42-year-old

"I was giving people too much access. I like to keep as much private as possible now," she shared. Among several reasons why their relationship worked, one is their shared love for giving back to society. Just like Murphy, who supports diverse charities, from The HollyRod Foundation to the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, Butcher is very passionate about helping and taking care of people. She loves building homes with Habitat for Humanity among other charity works. "Living in New York, I found New York Cares, so that connected me, and I originally would run sessions with KEEN, Kids Enjoy Exercise Now, for children with physical and mental disabilities — a sports program," she revealed. "I started with that and then nursing home."

Even after moving to Los Angeles, Butcher did not stop. She found new initiatives to support. "Here [in L.A.] I volunteer at homeless shelters," she noted. "I look after the children while the parents go through counseling. The recent one I’m on every week is called Baby to Baby, which is a nonprofit for women that have children and are living below the poverty line, so the charity sends care packages with toys, things for the kids, diapers, strollers, and stuff. So I go there and help them out." She added, "I also refurbish wheelchairs, for Wheels for Humanity. They get donations of old wheelchairs that are broken, and we change the tires out, clean them, and put new seats in, and then they send them to third-world countries."

Although Murphy hasn't had the perfect record when it comes to relationships, he always puts his children first, something that Butcher does too. "The brightest part of my life is my kids […] My world revolves around them. I do love my family and kids and I love being around them. And I’m always there with them," he said of the 10 children he has with his ex-partners, including two with Butcher. As for Butcher, she had no problem accepting his blended family and they couldn't be happier. Maybe that's why, Murphy popped the question in September 2018. Although it took years for the Dolemite is my Name actor to finally find true love, I guess Butcher was worth the wait.
