Dog, who spent over 200 days in shelter, is looking for a home after no one showed up to adoption party

Battersea Dogs & Cats has been caring for the pooch who they say has been unlucky in love.

Of all the days, Luke got stood up at his Valentine's Day party. The adorable pup was all set to find his forever lover but no one showed up on his special day, revealed Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in a release. The animal rescue center's shelter at Brands Hatch in Kent, England, has been caring for the pooch who they say has been unlucky in love.

Luke was just 5 when he came to the Battersea shelter as a stray. Now it's been over 200 days and the canine still has not been adopted, partially due to him being shy in new situations. To help the little one find a forever home, the shelter recently hosted Valentine's Day-themed adoption party. They hoped that the occasion would help him open up.

But tragically no one showed up at the event to meet Luke, leaving him lonely. "Valentine's Day is a time to show your appreciation for those you care about, so it's heartbreaking knowing that Luke will be spending the day without anybody to love after nobody came to meet him for a date. Thankfully, Battersea staff were on hand to show Luke plenty of love and affection instead," shared the center manager at Battersea Brands Hatch, Michelle Bevan, in a statement.

Bevan went on to explain how Luke has trouble bonding with potential pet parents as he becomes insecure and scared while facing new things. It's especially tricky when he's tasked with building a rapport with other dogs, Due to this issue, Luke is searching for a home where he can be the only dog and the family is willing to stay committed to helping the pooch build his confidence.

"Despite being a large dog, Luke is really just a big softie and enjoys nothing more than to cuddle up by a radiator with his favorite people and a cuddly toy. We're really hoping that someone will love him for the big lapdog that he truly is and give him the chance to be loved as he deserves," added Bevan according to PEOPLE.

If there's one thing that the owners don't have to worry about is being showered with lots of love because Luke has that part covered. The canine would prefer living in a quiet locality where he can enjoy peaceful walks as Luke tends to get anxious in busy areas. Moreover, Luke has skin and ear issues that his family would need to manage with a healthy and balanced diet. "Luke may have a few quirks, but he really does have so much love to offer the right person. He may not be perfect but is absolutely worth it," assured Bevan.
