Dog protects newborn baby abandoned in a field, takes care of her like one of her own puppies

The baby was left in the field at night with no clothes and her umbilical cord still attached to her.

A baby was discovered in a field with no clothes and her umbilical cord still attached to her. She managed to survive the night despite the cold as a mother dog and her puppies surrounded her to keep her warm. The incident took place in the Chattisgarh province of India where a local resident mentioned that the stray animal's protection is what is likely to have saved the newborn's life. According to Express UK, they said, "It's possibly the warmth from puppies and their mother itself who had kept this newborn alive. Usually, the temperature dips at night and it's already December. I must say, it's her sheer luck."

Images of the newborn snuggled up against the puppies in straw have since gone viral. Local villagers heard the baby cry and that's when they rushed in to help. They managed to alert the panchayat, a local government body, who contacted the police after she was rushed to a hospital. The little girl, who has been named Akanksha, was referred to The Child Line Project, which is being run by the Child Welfare Committee. They will decide where the baby will live. Police are now looking for the baby girl's family and an investigation is underway. According to Indian Express, local sarpanch (head of village) representative Munnalal Patel told ETV Bharat, “We had come out for work and at 11 am we saw that there is a newborn baby girl was lying in the village amid dogs. Then, we informed the health department. After that, the newborn was taken to the hospital.”

A similar story took place in Birmingham, UK. A newborn baby boy was abandoned in a park when a dog named Hel discovered him. Terry Walsh was taking the husky out for a walk when the pooch found a baby in a pile of blankets beneath a bush in Birmingham, Birmingham Live reported. "Suddenly I heard this baby cry," Walsh, 64, told the outlet. "I think it was Hel's gentle nudging and the heat from my husky's body that woke the baby up." The baby was just a few hours old at the time. He continued, " A bigger dog or another dog with a different temperament might well have just ripped and tugged at the blanket and the baby could have been treated like a rag doll and then you've also got the foxes and the rats and everything in there. How would they treat a baby? I thank the Lord that the baby was alive, that could've been a lot worse. The baby could've been dead. I said to my neighbors, Heaven sent Hel to rescue newborn baby boy!"
