Dog eaten alive by parasites approaches newlyweds and asks them to take away his pain

Not only was the pooch homeless but his body was being consumed alive by parasites.

A newlywed couple from Canada was enjoying their honeymoon in Greece when they stumbled across a dog who was in a pitiful state. The pooch had walked up to the driver's window as the couple was driving down a street. Not only was the pooch homeless but his body was being consumed alive by parasites.

"We were having a gale time going to the beach and doing all these things...so there we are driving through left, Gloria and I looked over and there was this sad dog and he kind of looked over at us and he came walking up to the car. He walked right up to the driver's window where I was sitting, you know sealskin tight with no nothing on him. No discernible hair, fur, nothing, and his tail was just a little whip," recalled Walter.

After seeing his infected, bony structure, it was evident to Aliki and Walter that the dog only had weeks to live. They knew that the dog needed immediate care but when they tried to approach him, he cowered a great deal, according to Paw Buzz. He was very apprehensive of their intentions, maybe due to being subjected to mistreatment by strangers in the past.

Despite being in a miserable state, the dog who initially kept his tail tucked between his legs wagged it happily when he realized that the couple meant well. He was simply happy to be finally discovered by two individuals who were ready to give him the attention he deserved.

With the help of Greek Animal Rescue and Diasozo, the couple rescued the lonely pup. They explained that there was something about the pooch that compelled them to help him and not leave him behind. He was given food by strangers and eventually brought to a clinic where he was treated for mange and intestinal parasite.

According to the veterinarian, the dog would have definitely died in a few weeks' time if he had continued to live on the road. But thanks to the kindness of the strangers, he was saved just in time. Now, his condition has improved considerably. After just 5 months of care and therapy, he began strutting again.

Now the dog, who was lovingly named Nelson, cannot stop smiling and wagging his adorable tail. Once he was completely healed, Nelson left for Canada and was welcomed to his new home by the couple who saved his life. "To actually see him in Canada after the last time we saw him, it was almost unbelievable. I almost was questioning whether he really was the same dog because it was night and day," said Aliki about the pup's transformation. "He is sweet and kind. This is meant to be," she added.
