Rescue dog saves her owner's life after he suffers a stroke and collapses to the floor when home alone

After her previous owner gave her up, the animal shelter thought it would be hard to find Sadie a new home. But she soon connected with the right person and ended up saving his life.

A man from New Jersey owes his life to a heroic rescue dog who stayed right by his side after he collapsed due to a stroke. The dog and her new pet parent had only known each other for a few months, but the furry companion proved how protective she is over the ones she connects with.

It was only a few months ago when the 6-year-old German shepherd named Sadie wound up at the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge; her previous owner could no longer keep the dog because they decided to move away.

Back then, "she was confused and seemingly lost upon rescue, having suddenly lost the only family that she knew," the animal shelter wrote on Facebook.

Although the gorgeous big girl is as loyal as can be, her nervous demeanor led the folks at the shelter to believe it would be hard for them to find Sadie a new home. But things started looking up for her when a man named Brian walked into the shelter.

"Just a few months ago, Brian came into Sadie’s life and decided to adopt her," wrote Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge. "Though her bio noted that she was especially nervous with men, Brian felt a special bond with Sadie, as he valued her intelligence, hesitancy to trust, and fierce loyalty once she did form that trust. Brian gave Sadie a second chance at life, adopting Sadie and welcoming her home."

It did not take long for Brian to find out that Sadie was the perfect match for him because she soon became the hero he needed to save his life. In January, 2021, Brian collapsed after suffering a stroke while he was all alone at home with Sadie. The entire time, Sadie not once left his side until help arrived.

After seeing Brian on the ground, Sadie licked Brian's face to make sure he stayed conscious. She even dragged him across the room so that Brian would be able to reach out for his phone. "Sadie was the only reason that Brian was able to call for help. This time, Sadie gave Brian a second chance at life," the animal shelter revealed.

Thanks to Sadie, Brian is currently receiving the attention he needs and is recovering while Sadie stays with family, as reported by ABC7NY.

Even while apart, Brian checks on Sadie through video calls and can't wait to see his faithful canine companion once again. "Sadie is staying with family while Brian recovers in a rehab center. They FaceTime every night, and are counting down the days until they can reunite!" added the Facebook post shared by Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge.

Not long ago, the animal shelter thought Sadie would be a "difficult placement," but the loving dog showed that she only needed the right human in her life for her loyalty to shine.

"Sadie’s bio noted, 'As is common to her breed, she is loyal and loving with her chosen people,'" the animal shelter shared. "No one could agree more than Brian, who is alive today thanks to Sadie’s devotion and quick thinking."
