"Lilly has been so excited! We have been blown away by the response and never expected this," mom Dorothy said about the overwhelming response!
Lilly Sedlak will turn four on January 27, but she won't have her father or godfather beside her when she blows out the candles on her birthday cake this year. While last year's been really hard for most of us, Lilly and her family had a really bad one, according to Western Mass News.
In June 2020, Lilly's father, Brandon, had suffered unexpected medical complications and met with an unfortunate early death. He was 28 years old. Talking about the fateful day, Brandon's wife Dorothy Sedlak said, "We came up the hill here into the neighborhood, and there were just tons of cop cars everywhere. I didn't even make it into the entrance before I leaped out of the car."
His obituary states he died in an accident. What deepened the grief felt by the little girl was that just a month after losing her father, Lilly had also lost the father figure meant to guide her after Brandon's death. The mother and daughter learned that Brandon's best friend and Lilly's godfather had died by suicide, as per PEOPLE. "Our favorite boys, gone too soon," shared Dorothy via a Facebook post.
Now, for her first birthday without her dad and godfather, Dorothy says the only thing Lilly really wants is for people to send her cards because she is obsessed with receiving mail. "She's always loved the mail," Dorothy explained to the outlet. "Her grandmother would take her to get the mail, and she just loves to do it. She's a little helper. She just loves to do everything for everyone."
In order to make Lilly's dream come true, Dorothy reached out to people via Facebook. She wrote: "It goes without saying that my daughter has had a really tough past 6 months with the unexpected passing of her daddy in June & then the tragic passing of her God Father in July. Our favorite boys, gone too soon."
"Her 4th birthday is January 27th... it will be her first birthday without her dad & I really want to make it special for her. Lillian LOVES mail. She loves the mailman, she loves getting the mail from the mailbox & she LOVES when there is mail for HER. I am reaching out to ask if anyone would be willing to mail her a birthday card, drawing, or letter. She does not need gifts but she really loves to open cards and letters and look at the pretty pictures."
Dorothy also added that Lilly's "favorite color is violet (not to be confused with purple), she loves unicorns and all things magical as well as flowers & animals of all kinds especially if they are cute!"
The kind people on social media came together to make Lilly's wish come true. Within 24 hours, Dorothy confirmed that Lilly received "a stack of Amazon packages" and since then, her mail has only continued to grow.
"Lilly has been so excited! We have been blown away by the response and never expected this," Dorothy said. "We are just so thankful to feel so much love. It’s been overwhelming in the best way."
