Nick Cannon reveals that his youngest child, Zen, has died at 5 months: "I'm feeling it, I'm vulnerable"

Announcing the heartbreaking news on his eponymous show Nick Cannon, on Tuesday, the 41-year-old actor shared that his 5-month-old son, Zen, had died of brain cancer.

Nick Cannon and girlfriend Alyssa Scott are living their worst nightmare after losing their infant son. Announcing the heartbreaking news on his eponymous show Nick Cannon, on Tuesday, the 41-year-old actor shared that his 5-month-old son, Zen, had died of brain cancer. "Today is a special one y'all for many reasons but it's not gonna be an easy one. I haven't even shared this with anybody, not even the crew," said Cannon. "I had a very tough weekend."

The star went on the explain how he and his partner took Zen to see a doctor at 2 months after noticing that his head seemed unusually large for his body. "He had this real interesting breathing and by the time he was two months old I noticed…he had this nice sized head, I called it a Cannon head," he said of his late son's condition. "We didn't think anything of it, he had a normal Cannon head. But I wanted to take him to the doctor to get the breathing and the sinus thing checked out."

What the parents expected to be a routine check-up ended up bearing some extremely distressing news. "We thought it would be a routine process," said The Misfits star, adding how doctors discovered a fluid build-up in Zen's head along with a malignant tumor that required brain surgery. Soon he was being wheeled into surgery where they removed the growth and created a hole to drain the fluid from his head.

"We were faithful and hopeful for that time. We carried on, he was still just playing with his brothers and sisters, I embraced every moment," shared Cannon of Zen, his seventh child. He lauded his model girlfriend for being strong throughout the distressing time. "Zen's mom, Alyssa, was just the strongest woman I've ever seen. Never had an argument, never was angry. Was emotional when she needed to be but always the best mom, and continues to be the best mom..." he added.

Just when they thought everything was going to be okay, Zen's health to a turn for the worse. It was during Thanksgiving time when the "tumor began to grow a lot faster." Recalling the last time he held his baby boy, a teary Cannon said that they spent "quality time" with Zen over the weekend in California after Alyssa brought her to him on Sunday before he could fly to New York for his show.

"I didn't know how I was gonna handle today but I just really wanted to grieve with my family, people who love you. I didn't want to make it about any pageantry so I kind of went back and forth of what I should do but I was always taught, you go through it you grow through it, you keep pushing," he expressed according to PEOPLE. "I'm here to show that I can fight through this, I'm feeling it, I'm vulnerable, I'm open. This is a special show dedicated to my beautiful son Zen."
