Rita Moreno made the revelation while appearing on The View on Wednesday when show's co-host Joy Behar asked the 89-year-old about being "constantly" cheated on by Marlon Brando.
Hollywood legend Rita Moreno recently opened up about how she got back at her ex Marlon Brando for cheating on her throughout their 8-year relationship. While appearing on The View on Wednesday, the show's co-host Joy Behar asked the 89-year-old about being "constantly" cheated on by Brando during their on-and-off relationship. Responding to this, the Oscar winner recalled, "I found lingerie in his house and, of course, I was heartbroken, and I went home in tears — really, I was naïve — and I was angry too, just furious." The next thing she knew, Elvis Presley was interested in her.
"The next day, the phone rings, and I hear 'Miss Marina?' I said, 'Uh, yeah?' 'This is Colonel Parker, my client is Elvis Presley, and Elvis spotted you at the 20th Century Fox commissary, and he liked what he saw,'" she shared, according to PEOPLE. "I said 'Oh?' and he said, 'And he would like very much to meet you. Would you like to meet him?' And I thought of those panties, and I said, 'Yes, I would!'" Although the West Side Story star dated Presley "several times" she found that he was "sweet but boring."
"He was sweet, but he was a country boy," she noted. Soon word about Moreno dating Presley reached Brando who became extremely furious. "So anyway, when [Brando] found out, it didn't take long. He started to throw chairs. He was so angry. It was wonderful. And I just sat there as he threw chairs and carried on," Moreno said as she crossed her arms and pretended to look at her nails, mimicking being unperturbed by his violent reaction. With that, she brilliantly explained how much she loved giving him the taste of his own medicine.
Moreno and Brando first met on the set of the Napoleon biopic Désirée. The actress was just 22 at the time. The details of her life, career, and of course her tumultuous relationship with Brando were revealed in a documentary called Rita Moreno: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go for It. It reportedly, debuted at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and is now available on Netflix. "He was the daddy that I couldn't please. I didn't know that, I wasn't aware of that at all," she is heard saying in the documentary. "But he was the one I wanted to please, he was the one I wanted to be married to."
Back in 2017, she opened up about keeping a photo of The Godfather actor in her bedroom. Why that picture of Marlon Brando? Because he was a big love of mine in my life. This one, it almost seems like a vignette out of a movie, so that's why it's there. He was the lust of my life and that over there is the love of my life," she said pointing to a framed picture of her with her husband. In 2013, she wrote in detail about her relationship with Brando in a memoir, Rita Moreno. In this, she revealed the turbulent time in her life that included an attempted suicide and an abortion.
It was returning to the New York stage and most importantly marrying her late husband Leonard Gordon in 1965 that played a huge role in her recovery. "We balance each other," she said in 1975. "I am not exactly Mrs. Good Housekeeping, although I love to cook, bake, even iron, but only because it's not mandatory."
