Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne celebrate 40 years of marriage, despite cheating scandals, health scares and more

7 years into their marriage, in 1989, Ozzy reportedly attacked Sharon and was arrested after she hit a panic button.

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne are celebrating their 40th anniversary! On Monday, Ozzy shared a throwback photo of the couple to mark their milestone marriage anniversary. "40 Years Ago Today! Happy Anniversary My Love," wrote the 73-year-old in the caption

In the picture, Sharon looks gorgeous in a white gown teamed with a white veil. Her look is complete with a bouquet of white and pink flowers. Ozzy stands beside her in a snap, wearing a white suit and a vine of leaves draped around his neck.

Meanwhile, Sharon shared an Instagram post to commemorate the occassion. "2022 is a special year. It marks 40 years of marriage to my darling Ozzy. We first met when I was 18, over 52 years we have been friends, lovers, husband & wife, grandparents, and soulmates. Always at each other's side. I love you Ozzy ~ Sharrrrrrron," she wrote according to PEOPLE.

Sharon and Ozzy met in 1970 but their relationship only turned romantic in 1979. The couple tied the knot in 1982 and welcomed daughters Aimee and Kelly and son Jack. Over the years, their relationship has been tested quite a number of time but the pair has managed to remain strong.

7 years into their marriage, in 1989, Ozzy reportedly attacked Sharon and was arrested after she hit a panic button. The Grammy winner, who has struggled with substance abuse, was under the influence of drugs at the time.

The former The Talk cohost chose to remain by her husband's side despite the attack as she saw the incident as a health crisis. "Thank God the judge put him in treatment for six months. I had time to really think about what he should do," she shared in the 2020 Biography: Nine Lives of Ozzy Osbourne documentary.

"I had no idea who was sat across from me on the sofa but it wasn’t my husband. He goes to a stage where he gets that look in his eyes, the shutters were down and I just couldn’t get through to him. And he just said, ‘We’ve come to a decision that you’ve got to die.’ He was calm — very calm — then suddenly he lunged across at me and just dived on me and started to choke me," she recalled. Then in 2013, Ozzy admitted that he had relapsed but that was trying to get better. He also shut down divorce rumors.

After overcoming these crises, the couple was hit with a cheating scandal years later. In May 2016 reports about Ozzy's infidelity surfaced and the couple split up after 33 years of marriage. "I honestly at this point today have no idea what I’m going to be doing with the rest of my life...I’m 63 years of age and I can’t keep living like this," she said at the time according to US Magazine.

But eventually, their love brought them together as they reconciled months later after hours of couple's therapy. "You just, you make mistakes, and you learn by your mistakes, I think. It’s just a bump in the road. … Some days it’s good, some days it’s terrible, some days you just drift apart for a while. But you get back on the horse, you know," Ozzy explained during his appearance on Good Morning America in July 2016.

The following year, Ozzy opened up about his sex addiction and how he cheated on her with multiple women. "It's a rock 'n' roll thing — you rock and you roll. You take the good with the bad. When I was a crazy f---er, I'm lucky she didn't walk out," he told Rolling Stone. The same year Sharon spoke about how she fell back in love with her husband.

"Thirty-five years with someone is a hell of a long time. And I think I fell out of love with my husband and then fell back again," she explained. "I just had a newfound love and I respected him because he's seriously trying to be a better person." In 2020, Ozzy noted, "I regret cheating on my wife. I don’t do it anymore."

Last month, Ozzy underwent "a very major operation" which could "determine the rest of his life" and Sharon remained beside him. Later, she expressed gratitude for the overwhelming amount of love, support, and prayers from people in the days that led up to his surgery. "Ozzy is doing well and on the road to recovery! Your love means the world to him," she wrote, revealing that the procedure went well.
