Just hours after being reported missing, Na'Mylah Turner-Moore's body was found in an abandoned lot.
A family is left heartbroken after their 10-year-old girl's body was found in an abandoned lot in a Michigan neighborhood. Police have arrested the girl's 14-year-old step-brother in connection with her death.
Per NBC 25 News, court records show that 14-year-old Jameion Peterson faces one charge of open murder and that he is being charged as an adult. Although the cause of Na'Mylah Turner-Moore's death and the motive behind the terrible act has not been revealed, authorities didn't find any signs of sexual assault.
According to MLive.com, Saginaw County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Blair N. Stevenson said, "it appears no dangerous weapon was involved." Na'Mylah was first reported missing by her stepfather early Tuesday morning when he could not find her in the house. Authorities quickly arrived at the scene and launched an investigation. Then hours later, they found the youngster's body in an abandoned lot situated on the same block.
Na'Mylah's mother, Melonzine Turner, was understandably devastated following the tragic incident especially because she treated her stepson like "he was my own." "I put clothes on his back. He was like another child of mine. I would have never thought he would have done nothing like this. But then again, you can't put nothing past nobody, and you can't judge a book by its cover," she shared.
The grieving mother noted that Na'Mylah's, her eldest daughter, "was everything" to her. "She was jolly, smiley-faced. She had a personality. She had so many friends. Everybody wanted to be around her. She just was lovable," Turner added. A GoFundMe page has been created by the family's uncle to support the family during this distressing time.
"Na’Mylah was a bright 10yr. Old who went missing August 30, 2022 and was found a couple of hrs later murdered and left in a field. My family is completely devastated and broken. Unfortunately, Ny’Mylah didn’t have life insurance so on behalf of her mother ( my sister) I’m asking for donations so we can put our Precious Ny’Mylah to rest. Anything will help big or small and please keep my family lifted in prayer.. Thanks in advance… God Bless," read the page.
Meanwhile, Peterson awaits his court appearance on September 21 after being denied bond.
