On Friday, the Escondido Police Department was informed about an "unresponsive man inside of a self-service car wash."
A Southern California man has died after getting stuck between his car and the machinery at a self-service car wash. On Friday, the Escondido Police Department was informed about an "unresponsive man inside of a self-service car wash" situated on the 2100 block of East Valley Parkway in Escondido, wich is siatyed about 35 miles north of downtown San Diego and 110 miles south of central Los Angeles.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a "56-year-old man trapped between a 2014 Scion XB and a part of the car wash machinery." Authroities said in a statement that their preliminary investigation "indicated that the man drove into the car wash and for an unknown reason, tried to exit his vehicle."
"The vehicle then rolled forward, pinning the man between the car and the machinery," they added, noting that the car wash did not appear to have been activated when the fatal collision occurred at around 11:45 p.m. local time at the 24-hour establishment.

An Escondido officer told KSWB-TV that the progress of the car wash is controlled by the drivers. Apparently, the man was found by another customer, and by that point, the alarm at the car wash had been going off for up to 30 minutes.
Officers who arrived at the scene ultimately managed to free the man, who has not been identified. CPR was administered before he was rushed to Palomar Medical Center, a local hospital where doctors pronounced him dead revealed Lt. Scott Walters during an interview with NBC News.
The EPD's Traffic Division is currently investigating and reviewing footage from the scene to find out why the victim got out of his vehicle and how he became trapped inside the wash. Anyone with information regarding the death is urged to call Officer Pete McCollough at 760-839-4930. Previously, a woman who was trying to pay for her parking died in a similar freak accident. Victoria Strauss had dropped her credit card while exiting the parking garage at 45 Vine Street. So she opened her car's door to reach out for it however accidentally stepped on the accelerator causing her veidhle to collide with the payment kiosk.
Unfortunately, her head was trapped between the car door and the floor frame. The incident happened on January 18, 2021, at 11:37 p.m. but her body was found around 5:40 am the following morning after a security guard noticed her car.
