The father suddenly died at age 48 on Dec 18, 2020, after being rushed to the hospital a day earlier for "breathing difficulties."
Pop singer Talyor Swift is known to lend a helping hand to those in need, but she isn't one to create a huge fuss about it. On Tuesday, March 23, 2021, Swift and her mom Andrea quietly donated $50,000 to a GoFundMe campaign for Vickie Quarles, a Tennessee mother of five who lost her husband to COVID-19, days before Christmas last year.
USA Today reports that the GoFundMe description states that Theodis Ray Quarles —father to Alyssa, Anaya, Asia, Allie, and Aryah— suddenly died at age 48 on December 18, 2020, after being rushed to the hospital a day earlier for "breathing difficulties."
DeQuanda Smith, who organized the fundraiser on Quarles' behalf on December 22, wrote: "When the paramedics arrived to the Quarles' home to transport Theodis… Vicki wasn't allowed to accompany her husband due to quarantine restrictions." She had no idea that this would be the last time she'd get to see her best friend alive.

Smith continued: "She later received a call from the hospital that Theodis had succumb (sic) to this awful virus." The loss of Theodis is bound to leave a gaping hole in their life, which is why Smith started the fundraiser to "support of Vicki and her girls to offer financial relief and worry from things associated with basic immediate needs as well as for their continued growth, goals and asperations."
"I am confident that their father, Theodis Ray Quarles, will be smiling from heaven when his little teacher, doctor, CEO, nurse or entrepreneur makes her mark in the world," Smith wrote further on the GoFundMe page. "As the Lord leads Vicki to shepherd them to their destinies, your donation is most appreciated in championing this family to the finish line."
The goal of the fundraiser was to collect $50,000, to "offer financial relief" and "basic immediate needs" as the family grieves. However, thanks to Swift's generous donation, the total went up to $62,025.
This is not the first time Taylor Swift has reached out to people, helping them with donations. Back in December, we reported how Swift donated $13,000 to two mothers trying to make rent and pay the bills during the holidays.
She donated to the two of them after she was moved by an article about Americans who were struggling to make ends meet, and many who were behind on rent due to the government's lack of stimulus agreement amid the COVID-19 crisis. The pandemic was hard on everyone and one mom stated how she was behind on her rent by $5,000, adding that she wasn't sure if she could even give her kids a proper Christmas celebration.
That's when the Love Story singer pitched in and donated $13,000 to her. Swift then donated the same amount to another woman who was buried under a mountain of medical bills. It's heartening to see celebrities use their status for all the right reasons, and we're pretty sure this won't be Swift's last donation.
