The divorce was finalized in August 2020 and the golf pro ended up paying a hefty amount in the divorce settlement for the betrayal he had caused.
Tiger Woods is one of the greatest golf players the world has ever seen, however, when it comes to his relationships, Woods could not keep up with his good reputation. He betrayed his wife, Elin Nordegren numerous times and their relationship ended up in an ugly divorce.
Nordegren married Woods in 2004. The couple had a great marriage for the first five years of their union. However, things changed when Woods came forward to confess about his extramarital affairs in April 2009. The player confessed he had slept with 120 women. He also claimed to have a one-night stand with his neighbor's 21-year-old daughter in Florida.
According to InTouch Weekly, Woods publicly apologized and stated, "I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart. I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves. I am not without faults and I am far short of perfect."
He added, "Elin has always done more to support our family and shown more grace than anyone could possibly expect. I will strive to be a better person and the husband and father that my family deserves. For all of those who have supported me over the years, I offer my profound apology."
Woods's efforts did not calm his wife down. Nordegren could not believe her husband's deeds. She had never imagined him to cheat on her to this extent, especially with the 21-year-old neighbor while she was taking care of their baby. The young mother was so upset that she called him when he was having dinner with his friends and yelled at hime on the phone, "This is the worst betrayal ever. I can’t believe you had sex with that girl in our own neighborhood. That’s it — I’m divorcing you," said the Nordegren in rage to her husband. "She was screaming so loudly that everyone at the table could hear what she was saying," said a source, who witnessed Nordegren's outburst, according to the New York Post.
What made matters worse for Nordegren was Woods's affair that reportedly happened yards away from their family home in Florida while she was caring for their baby. Speaking of her husband's infidelities, she said, "I’m so embarrassed that I never suspected — not a one. I’ve been through hell. It’s hard to think you have this life, and then all of a sudden — was it a lie? You’re struggling because it wasn’t real. But I survived. It was hard, but it didn’t kill me," according to InTouch Magazine.
After having heard and experienced enough, Nordegren knew she did not want to stay in an unfaithful relationship. In August, 2020, the former Swedish model walked away from her marriage. The golf player paid $110 million in divorce settlements to Nordegren, according to CheatSheet.
Following the divorce, Woods took responsibility for his actions once again. He also stated that his wife should be appreciated for being patient. “The issue involved here was my repeated irresponsible behavior. I was unfaithful. I had affairs. I cheated. What I did was not acceptable and I am the only person to blame," said Woods. He added, "I ran straight through the boundaries that a married couple should live by — I thought I could get away with whatever I wanted to. I felt that I had worked hard my entire life and deserved to enjoy all the temptations around me. I felt I was entitled," according to In Touch Magazine.
Despite the bitterness, the couple remains cordial for the sake of their children. “Our relationship is centered around our children, and we are doing really good — we really are. He is a great father," said the mother of two. She is also supportive of her former partner's relationships.
