Tom Hanks and wife, Rita Wilson tested positive for coronavirus but are "not really worried about it"

"Yeah, it’s true, my parents got coronavirus," their son said in a video he shared.

Academy-award winning actor, Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson are set to be isolated and observed after they were both tested positive for coronavirus.

The couple is currently in the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, where the 63-year-old actor was filming an untitled production about Elvis Presley, according to The Guardian.

Revealing their diagnosis on Instagram, Hanks wrote, "Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive."

Talking about what the next few days might look like for the couple, the actor added, "The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?
We’ll keep the world posted and updated. Take care of yourselves!"

The shooting of the feature film on Elvis has also come to a halt after the entire cast and crew were informed that a crew member had tested positive; they were also told to stay away from the set.

After Hanks' diagnosis came to light, health officials are trying to trace all those who came in close contact with the couple.

"People who have come in close contact with Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson will now need to self isolate and quarantine," said Annastacia Palaszczuk, the premier of Queensland.

Hanks, who rarely says "no" to a selfie with a fan, was posing for pictures with fans at public spots like the Coolangatta Beach on the Gold Coast as well as a cafe near Mount Warning on the New South Wales.

However, the premier added that this shouldn't shouldn't be a reason to panic. "Tom has been having a wonderful time on the Gold Coast and we are so lucky to have Tom in Queensland,” Palaszczuk said. "But what it is, is people who have come in very close contact with him in recent days [our] experts will now work very closely with him with Baz [Luhrmann] and all the cast the crew and then they will isolate those people who have been in that close proximity."

"From what the chief health officer has told me it’s over 15 minutes of being in very close contact, so a selfie wouldn’t count as that," he adds.

Despite being diagnosed with a severe medical condition that has gripped the entire world, the couple are not too worried, according to their son, Chet Hanks.

Chet Hanks posted a message on Instagram, "Yeah, it’s true, my parents got coronavirus. It’s crazy," Chet said, as quoted by Today. "They both are fine, they’re not even that sick."

After saying that he spoke to his parents over the phone, the 29-year-old son added that they were taking the "necessary health precautions" and they were "not really worried about it."
