In 2000, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones tied the knot in a lavish ceremony and today more than 2 decades later, they are still going strong. To mark their 21st wedding anniversary, the 77-year-old actor shared an adorable tribute on Instagram. It was an adorable video of their most memorable moments since getting married, with the song Best Day of my Life by The American Authors, playing in the background. It featured many pictures portraying a couple's relationship over the years starting from shots taken at their November 2000 wedding. "Happy Anniversary my darling Catherine! I love you so much @catherinezetajones ❤️ #21years," wrote Douglas in the caption of the post.
As for the 52-year-old actress, she shared a black and white throwback image of her and her husband and wrote, "Happy Anniversary Michael. For 21 years you have had my back! For over 21 years we had had our love. Love you sweetheart❤️" Back in April, Zeta-Jones told WSJ. Magazine that having lots of fun together is the secret to making their marriage last this long. She added, "constant love and respect" as well as maintaining a "sense of humor" are also key to having a successful marriage. The Mask of Zorro actress also emphasized that there's no relationship that is perfect and that going through ups and downs is totally "normal." She explained, "My husband and I spend a lot of time together because, unlike so many couples, we've never had a 9-to-5 job where it's consistent."
"... So we've had in our relationship huge amounts of time where we've been just us. We lived on the island of Bermuda for 12 years bringing up our kids. We respect each other's space, and our humor is just long-lasting," she added. Back in September, the couple celebrated their birthdays, which falls on the same day, together on September 25 with separated tributes on Instagram. The Ant-man actor recalled the night he first met his partner at the Deauville Film Festival in 1998. Apparently, they instantly connected. "I found out that she had the same birthday as me--tadaah!" he wrote alongside a picture of the two toasting at the event.
"Then when I discovered she loved golf, I realized all my fantasies had come true. I've lucked out at this time in my life. I just lucked out. I'm so impressed by her intelligence, sense of humor, and work ethic," he noted. As for Zeta-Jones, she chose to go for a much simpler message that read, "Happy Birthday to me. Happy Birthday to him, Happy Birthday to my husband and his wife, Happy Birthday to me, and me, and me, and Michael. 😂😂 Here's to more years that we can celebrate September 25th together. Love you.😘"
