Woman sets out to find biological om, learns she has been reported missing since 1980

When the 42-year-old set out to look for answers, she stumbled across a distressing truth.

Trigger warning: This story contains details of sexual abuse that some readers may find disturbing.

Like most adopted children, Shawne Bolton too wished to find her biological parents to know more about her heritage. However, when the 42-year-old set out to look for answers, she stumbled across a distressing truth. Bolton began by searching for information about her biological mother but when her efforts did not fetch any results, she decided to check police records of the town that she was born in. When she told cops about her story, they studied her profile and managed to come up with some information that left the woman shocked. In 1980, she had been reported missing and her kidnappers were the ones who brought her up.

Bolton came across this truth when she was just 26 and now, years later, she decided to share her story with the world via TikTok. "How I learned I had been kidnapped," read the caption of the video which has been viewed millions of times. In the clip, she recalled being told at the age of 10 that she was an adopted child. At the time, her parents were divorcing and her "mother" made it very clear that she didn't want anything to do with Bolton following the separation. The woman then went on to share that she was in a good place when she finally went out looking for her biological parents at the age of 26.

Everything was going well at that point and she was even engaged to be married. That's when she called the cops to check if they had any criminal record of her biological mom and as she divulged more of her information, the sheriff told her that she was reported missing a few months after being born on November 1, 1979. Although authorities did their best to look for her, they never found her. "It's still an open investigation. I am trying to solve it by myself and have been for 15 years." wrote the woman. Bolton has since posted multiple videos answering questions about her past and tragically they all paint a dark picture.

She eventually employed a private investigator to find her mother as she continued piecing together her past. Unfortunately, the truth was more heartbreaking than the fact that she had been kidnapped. The investigator did ultimately find her mother but learned that she had sold Bolton to the people who raised her - Steven and Angie. It was her mother, who then filed a missing report case when Bolton's grandmother freaked out, unaware of what her daughter had done. Her biological mom even listed Steven as a suspect but cops did not investigate the angle properly at the time.

What's more disturbing is the claims that Bolton made about her dark past. Apparently, she had been abused by her parents and family friends for years as a child. "Lonely. Cold. Lots of beatings. Sex abuse. Being passed around to relatives and friends. I did not have any normal childhood moments in my young life," she revealed, adding that her parents would ask her to hide whenever visitors came over. Bolton's plight touched millions of viewers and one of them helped her find her biological father. After a DNA test proved that he was indeed her father, they have been getting along quite well.

The dip even met up one time, a video of which was posted on her social media account. It was during one of their conversations that Bolton learned she was a love child that he knew about but decided to forget so wouldn't have to process it. Having been through so much, she understands the importance of self-love. Thus, she is not focusing on her life and learning to love herself. "Love all the pieces of who you are. we grow and become different people with every choice we make! Choose happiness and self-love," she wrote in one of her videos.
