Youngsters on TikTok are shaving their own teeth down in a bizarre new online trend

Each new trend gets even more strange than the one before.

A bizarre new trend on TikTok is resulting in teens shaving down their teeth for the sake of a challenge. While some are doing it trend has got people shaving their teeth down to sharp pegs so that they can get veneers and have the perfect smile, according to Insider. The hashtag #veneerscheck is trending on the platform and people are showing off their filed down natural teeth before they are fitted for veneers, as per Paper. It is an expensive cosmetic procedure as it gives you a perfect smile.

Now, you don't need a dentist to tell you that it's not okay to file your own teeth, but looks like some TikTok users clearly don't seem to understand why, so experts are posting videos on the platform, warning people against it.

Dentist Dr. Emi Mowson explained via her TikTok, shaving down your teeth into "stumps" is not actually meant for veneers, but rather for "crown preparations and there's a big difference." She said: "As long as your teeth are aligned veneers, require minimal to no preparation whatsoever," Mawson said in a TikTok video. "The veneers are much less disruptive to the teeth. I think it's really important to understand the difference between veneers and crowns, particularly if you're someone that's considering cosmetic dental treatment."

Another dentist named Dr. Shaadi Manouchehri also spoke about the trend. In her own video warning, said: "Shaving teeth down to pegs like that is going to damage the nerve and you're going to need a root canal treatment and an extraction at some point in your life."

She continued, "The second point, veneers or crowns will need to be replaced every 10 to 15 years typically. She is going to need to replace them probably four or five times throughout her life, if not more." Dr. Manouchehri added, "Not only the financial burden is going to be an issue, secondly it's gonna be a biological burden because the tooth physically can't be prepared and re-prepared every single time."

People took to Facebook to share their views. Steph Price said: Bloody disgusting! A mouth with natural wonky and/or overcrowded teeth looks so much nicer than that! I know I’d rather my natural teeth to shaving them down to get the “perfect” smile. Jim Downey added: And all for vanity! So they naively think that once they get that "perfect" smile they will be happy! For awhile if successful but then what's next? Lose a stone, get botox and get a hair transplant? Then they'll be happy! It never stops. Keza Motlana added: While this is horrific and nightmare fuels I feel the need to remind everyone that just because some kids/people have done it doesn’t mean all kids are doing it. Not all kids are eating tide pods and not all kids are shaving down their teeth.
