49-year-old Yuni Shara, a famous Indonesian popstar, says that watching X-rated films with her boys helps them know about the do's and don'ts when it comes to sex in real life.
As children grow up, parents do their best to keep them informed about various things. Sometimes though, they are very discreet while explaining certain topics—just take "the birds and the bees" conversation. Although it's an important lesson to impart, discussing sexual intercourse can often get quite uncomfortable for both parties. This is not the case for a mother in Indonesia, who revealed that she regularly watches porn with her teen sons to educate them about sex.
Forty-nine-year-old Yuni Shara, a famous Indonesian popstar, says that watching X-rated films with her boys helps them know about the do's and don'ts when it comes to sex in real life.
Despite being criticized for her choice of sex education, Shara—whose legal name is Wahyu Setyaning Budi—refuses to be old-fashioned in her thoughts, reports The Sun. All she wants is to encourage her children to be more open-minded like her. Not only does she allow her sons to watch porn, but she takes it a step further by watching it with them. Apparently, she also asks her teen sons if they enjoy watching porn together. "So, I think it’s better if I ask them, 'What do you guys think about watching (porn) together like this, is it cool?', and they’ll be like 'Mom, don’t be like this,'" said Shara during an interview that was recently uploaded on YouTube.
"My children also happen to be open-minded," she is heard saying in the clip. "It’s impossible for our children nowadays to not watch porn, whether it’s 'anime' or any other kind that are available nowadays." In Asian cultures, sex is a taboo subject that is often frowned upon if brought up during family discussions. That's why not many were impressed with the pop star's unusual parenting technique. One social media user even when to the extent of describing their interacting as "F***ing creepy." Another noted that there are "some journeys" that "must be traveled alone."
That being said, not everyone is against Shara's unique approach toward sex education, especially the singer's younger sister Kris Dayanti. Dayanti lauded Shara's openness when it comes to parenting and said it was very important for her children to get proper education regarding sex. Even expert Agstried Piether agrees with Shara's decision to be open about the subject of sex. Speaking to Indonesian news outlet Antara, Piether said that the mother of two was doing the "right thing."
"When we see the kids watching pornographic movies, no matter how uncomfortable the situation is, we should never be angry, because they will only do it again in secret. Instead, ask the child what prompted him to watch porn? Curious?" Piether explained according to CCN Indonesia. "Through these discussions, parents can provide factual sex education based on their knowledge, and not based on porn films." However, it is important to make sure that the pornographic films are fit for their age and that they understand sex, in reality, is not like porn. "Even though it's not like that. So let's get children used to seeking knowledge from true and reliable sources. Don't forget to also adjust sex education for children according to their age," continued the psychologist.
